GREEN FIREBALLS

Headed west on Rio Bravo Boulevard last night at 8:15 p.m., my wife and I watched surreally as A Gigantic Green Fireball passed overhead appearing to go down on the west mesa outskirts of Albuquerque (though it was undoubtedly farther away than it appeared)...It was terrifically bright green, silent, and on a steady passing course to the ground. It appeared to be the size of a low flying helicopter though a solid brilliant light of green
. Silently crossing the sky in front of our car with a slight trail behind it. Moving steadily both horizontally and vertically like an etch-a-sketch line across the sky.

When we arrved home, we discovered that these Green Fireballs have a history of appearances over the state of New Mexico. See Green Fireballs in Wiki. My wife and I discussed also the fact that it was so unreal. I found myself wondering about those folks who see a tornado approaching and don't believe it. There was a calmness watching this light go silently across the roadway over the trees while we were driving...Then a mutual vocalizing, "Did you see that?" So unexpected and odd and yet sort of a 'gift' to have been witness to it.

I called local TV station KOB but there newsroom early on had no rpeorts of others having seen the light. However within a very short time, the Facebook page of KOB TV had quite a 'conversation going. One lady chimed in from as far away as Phoenix who had seen it. And it was early on in the evening so most folks seemed pretty sober who reported seeing it.

At any rate, for me it was an interesting 'harbinger of 2012' perhaps...Happy New Year!
